The History of Hacienda Mesa, South Carolina I have been asked, on several occasions, the meaning of Hacienda Mesa. Very simply put, a Hacienda is a ranch. Haciendas originated in Spain, and is a part of our Hispanic heritage, I thought the name would fit. I have vision and have begun to create it here in South Carolina. The State which bears my mothers name. Currently, we are a work in progress. Prior to moving to South Carolina we lived a very busy life in Washington, D.C. The hustle and bustle, along with hours of traffic, gave us the desire to raise our family in the country. In 2004, we purchased small piece of land that once belonged to my boys great grandfather. This land quickly became our favorite weekend get away from our busy city life. We later bought a couple of horses as recreation for the boys. At the time, we were blessed with Remi and Riley, and later with the birth of Reese. They love the life we have given them here in the calm of this small town. It makes us so happy to see our children running and playing freely in the country, forming their very special friendships with all of their animals. They are learning about life in a way that only the simplicity and serenity of the country can bring. Since moving here permanently in the spring of 2006, not only did our family grow, our herd of horses did as well. We have horses of Spanish descendant known as Paso Fino and Peruvian Pasos' as well as a variety of others such as Haflingers, Paint, Percheron, and Quarter Horses. Hacienda Mesa flourished into a boarding and training facility for horses however, the downturn of our economy has placed a severe strain on our dream. Even so, we plant and harvest our own oats and hay to feed our horses, and the horses that we board. We also produce and harvest hay, cucumbers, corn, and other vegetables that are for sale to the public. Hacienda Mesa is located between Andrews and Kingstree, in Williamsburg County, South Carolina. A family owned business operated by Sergio Mesa. Sergio, along with the children, Remi, Riley, and Reese, reside at Hacienda Mesa.
